Healing Old Wounds

corazónGod is a healer. He is interested in our freedom. Don’t ever dare to believe otherwise. If freedom is a product of the Lord’s presence, “Where the Spirit of the Lord, there is freedom” (2 Corinth. 3:17), then how can we expect anything but freedom?

Before we can walk in freedom, we must believe it is God’s will. As we recognize that His will is indeed to prosper us “that it may be well with our souls” (3 John 1:2), we can then start walking into it. But trust me and the Word of God on this fact: Without faith, you will attain nothing from the Kingdom of God. Furthermore, it is absolutely essential to believe in WHO God is before you can reap His rewards and blessings (Hebrews 11:6).

The step to our freedom begins with uprooting ‘once conscious’ thoughts out of our subconscious. This is done by “repenting and rebuking” of old wounds. We must confess old thoughts, patterns of thinking and decisions that were made. In the Secret Place, out of your heart, and unto the Lord, you must acknowledge anything that doesn’t line up with the Person of Jesus Christ.

Sounds a lot like confession? Yes, but entirely not what you think. Repentance is releasing ownership of what never belonged to you. Through the process of “repenting and rebuking,” we are releasing “things” that don’t belong to our spirit man, things that hold us captive and in bondage, until we release them. Let me illustrate this further: Does a certain situation trouble you? Are you instantly offended even at the thought of someone you know? Are you afraid of public speaking? Do you cringe when someone asks you to pay for their meal? Is there someone you don’t want to be seen with?

More than likely, you have several of these situations if not a whole fold. Here’s the problem: men and women are living in bondage but there is freedom if we can access our souls through the Spirit of God. This pertains more to Christians, because if you are not a born-again believer, you have no legal authority over any spiritual foe and the last thing you need to worry about is a character flaw, because you have a much greater underlying problem- your spirit in its entirety is dead and if not “born-again” by the Spirit of God, has no authority to take on any “soul” matter.

Christians, on the other hand, continue to live in bondage as well, because they do not take captive what doesn’t belong to them, but they hold it to themselves and try to live in freedom and victory. We can’t live in freedom if we aren’t letting go of “sin.” In this case, sin is not necessarily sexual immorality or theft. Sin is accepting the dead mentality over the Spirit mentality. The Spirit mentality is believing in the full finished work of Jesus Christ, found in the atonement. Not only do you gain relationship with God, but divine healing and restoration of your soul, “through the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Therefore, if you aren’t releasing the old mentality, you are accepting it.

It is important to realize that on our own we cannot search out and release old habits, thoughts and strongholds. The human soul is unsearchable, but the Spirit of God knows everything about you and He will bring to your remembrance those “things” you must release. He stands with us, as we release those “things” that don’t belong to us. He stands today saying, “Child, release that thing, that I may heal it, cover it and restore YOUR freedom once and forevermore”!

When we “repent” of a certain event or situation that once happened, we are renouncing the authority over that “thing.” For example, let’s say that back in grade school, the class was making public presentations, but deep in your heart and mind, you didn’t believe in yourself and focused on how annoying your voice sounds or your accent. AT THAT POINT, you sowed a seed into your heart, a corrupt seed that doesn’t have any place in the Kingdom of God. This seed will create a hole in your heart that will forever keep you in bondage in some fashion or another to  public speaking. As time passes, you affirm that decision, rationalizing that you really dislike public speaking, “just because,” but all you are doing is binding yourself more and more to your master- fear. You are locking yourself away further and further into an isolated dungeon. It is exactly where the devil wants to keep you, stripping you of your authority.

I repeat, this is not the Lord’s plan or way. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom”! Rather we must have a continual release and flush of anything contrary to the Word and Person of Jesus Christ! In the depth of your heart, in your prayers, confess, repent and rebuke those “authorities” you’ve allowed in your life through circumstances, situations, and relationships. As you release that corrupt seed, the Holy Spirit immediately patches the wound and heals you, closing the door to that weakness and “authority” *forever. Did I say forever? As long as you hold fast to your confession, you will remain free (Hebrews 10:23), because He, the Lord, holds the keys to Hell and Hades and has defeated every spiritual foe, to whom the Father has submitted every authority and principality. You need not worry about His authorization. It has been given to Him from the Father of lights, in whom there is no darkness or shadow of turning (James 1:17).

He brings us to a place of repentance to restore our freedom. Will freedom cost us everything? Yes. Everything that doesn’t belong to you as a child of God.
